by Intel Malaysia

draft3-01

Conducted by Mr. Alex Goon, HR campus programme manager of Intel Malaysia, this session emphasises on the key points of a resume. Opening with a quick Introduction to Intel, Mr. Alex informed the students of the renewed Intel brand logo as well as the standing of Intel as the number 1 company in the IT sector voted by graduates across Malaysia through gradmalaysia.

Mr Alex pointed out the importance of a resume by stating that it is a concept to inform of one’s future employer of why they should be employed. It is also important to understand the roles of interviewee to get the right person for the right team. In a more specific term, the interviewer will assess a candidate through their resume to find relevant qualifications, expertise, and skills which in turn can contribute to the team. Some of the things that will be assessed are interpersonal skills through the participation in events and determining whether you are a high energy individual. High Energy levels might indicate that one is a team player and capable of moving out one’s comfort zone to achieve success. Mr Alex also advised interview attendees to be outspoken during the interview to avoid being an answer machine, answering only to the asked question.

To land in a desired company, the utmost importance will be to give importance to the following attributes: Have an apprehensible and unambiguous resume, preparation before the interview, an impressive interview moment and a courtesy to say “thank you”, and proactively following up post interview as all this will be evaluated in terms of one’s personality as well as seriousness about employment. Creating a resume is a subjective topic but then there are some common mistakes that can be avoided such as an irrelevant objective, incorrect email and contact details and incomplete educational details. Other element to take note of will be the fonts, language skills, reference as well to not cramp too much info upon your resume.

Mr Alex highlighted that digital resume platforms such as LinkedIn has become a new norm as we are in a worldwide pandemic and most organizations prefer the working from home approach. Some of the elements that can be given extra importance will be to post clearer skillsets and getting them endorsed. If you have worked in project requiring a specific skillset with your superiors, they can endorse them certifying “Yes, this individual has this skillset”. Apart from that, one should also focus onto minor details such as displaying a professional picture, writing up a summary of your story, avoid using LinkedIn like Facebook and lastly portray your achievements and treat LinkedIn as a professional resume.
