Deloitte is a leading professional services organization delivering Audit, Task, Risk Advisory, Financial Addition services and Consulting through its network of members forms.
The objective of the session was to let future engineering graduates know that there are other fields that engineering graduates can venture into apart from engineering, and what opportunities lie ahead of them from a consulting standpoint. According to him, consulting is generally working with a company to try and solve their business problems and to find new and better strategies and opportunities. Located in over 150 countries, Deloitte works across multiple industries with over 1600+ consultants in South East Asia which is and ever-expanding number.
Mr Azhar explained that the graduates and analysts that work with Deloitte do not come from a particular discipline. Interestingly, their employees range from business graduates, engineering graduates and even graduates from film and animation.
The newly employed are put through a boot camp and throughout their career, various training will be provided. Fresh graduates are measured by their way of thinking and the way they pitch their ideas. When fresh graduates join Deloitte, they start as a Business Analyst and move up the career ladder which Deloitte provides a clear path in terms of expectation, moving from on level to another level supported by senior consultants and ample training.
Mr Azhar also mentioned that a few of the bests analysts on his team are from engineering backgrounds and they are great when it comes to problem solving as they have a structured way of thinking and articulating problems. Mr Azhar ended his session by giving an insight from the perspective of an employer. Between knowledge and attitude of a fresh graduate, attitude is always looked upon when looking for a new hire whereas knowledge on the other hand can always be trained.
