Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) was established in 1997 and has flourish to be one of the most prestigious private universities in Malaysia. The campus is built on 400 hectares (990 acres) at Seri Iskandar, Perak, Malaysia. The university is a wholly owned subsidiary of PETRONAS, the national oil company of Malaysia.
UTP offers a wide range of industry-relevant engineering, science, and technology programmes at undergraduate and postgraduate levels and aims at producing well-rounded graduates with who are creative and innovative with the potential to become leaders of industry and the nation. This university has succeeded in producing more than 15,000 graduates and currently has an enrollment of over 1,200 foundation students, 6,000 undergraduates and 1,200 postgraduates from more than 66 countries around the world. In 21 years of its establishment, UTP strives for numerous national and international recognitions.
A maximum 5 – star overall rating in the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) StarsTM University Rating System for 2017 had been awarded to this university. Rated as Tier 6 (Outstanding) University for the year 2017 rating System for the Education Institutions (SETARA ’17) and achieved the Tier 5 for 2017 D-SETARA (Discipline – Based Rating system) in engineering. UTP continues to rise in the world rankings as UTP leaps 88 places to be at the 145th rank for engineering and technology in QS World University Ranking by Subject 2018.
UTP continues to deliver exclusive scholastic experience for students of all levels. Research and development are given strong emphasis as the university strives to maintain the status of internationally renowned research University. Comprehensive research activities are conducted by the university with the collaboration of PETRONAS and other institutions and industries locally and abroad which put focus on Enhanced Oil Recovery, Carbon Dioxide Management, Deepwater Technology, Nanotechnology, Green Technology, Biomedical Technology, Hybrid Energy Systems, Intelligent Cities, and Sustainable Resources. This is evident when UTP was awarded a 6 – star rating by Ministry of Higher Education Malaysia for its research, development, and commercialisation efforts under the Malaysia Research Assessment Rating System (MyRA).
